Welcome to this guest topic from Jerry S. I suspect he suggested it as a bump in the road vs an actual statement of possibility, but here goes…

Why dogs are more relevant in musical theater now more than they were 50 years ago

A. I know next to nil about musical theater … except that theatre is spelled with an re, not an er at the end and I loved “Hamilton.”

B. Dogs are more relevant now than they were 50 years ago. Truth.

Where’s the tie-in? In the land of ‘stretch your imagination?’ Maybe – maybe not.

Let’s break it down and review the evidence…

Dogs are magnetic.

You’re going about your day, life, whatnot and blah, blah, blah then …. PUPPY OUT MY WINDOW!

Facebook posts… “I’m depressed. Send me your cute dog photos.” 500 Comments and 2,000 Likes.

Add Broadway, the mecca of musicals.

What’s the pooper scooper on pups in the playhouses? Playbill. offers a clue…

Now, I confess, I don’t know if any of these are musicals because I didn’t care enough to check. There are a LOT of dogs in just that Playbill article alone though. Hmmmm….

When I was little (and I’m old so I fit into Jerry’s ‘premise’), star dogs were Lassie and Snoopy. And, before you say it, yes I do know that Lassie wasn’t always a girl dog. A quick Google search – but I’ll deny having actually done any research for this blog post – vividly illustrate that there are dogs, Dogs, DOGS starring in everything.

More relevant? Absolutely.

The world of Big Broadway is Big Business and they’ve obviously caught on. Want to sell tickets? Make it a love story and include a bit with a dog.

I approve.

So, Jerry S., I’m going to Approval-Stamp your guest topic because DOGS!
